My great grandmother is a native of Estonia and I am looking forward to learning her native tongue. I am hoping that this web site is helpful. Is there any advice that you would like to give before I begin?

Hey!

I suggest you to start by learning some basic phrases from the "Phrases" page on the Speak Estonian! site and maybe try to listen some Estonian songs. For example "Jaan Tätte" has quite good pronunciation, also "Jäääär" and "Urmas Alender", you can find them on Youtube. Read lyrics and translate these to English in Google Translate. It would also be really helpful if you can just study some parts of the vocabulary: numbers, days of the week etc. which you can find from the Vocabulary part of the site.

I hope my answer helps you! :)

Learn how to pronounce the abc in estonian would be 1st step, and then go through the basics on this site and of course listen to Estonian songs from artists that he named.

Best way to learn a language is take a book in Estonian and then Estonian to English dictionary :-)
